Update on the life-sized bust - The final detail carving is done, it is hollowed out (after photos were taken), and it is going into the kiln tomorrow (fingers crossed that everything goes well!).
It was still quite heavy the last time I moved it, but I’m hoping that that was because of the water in the clay. I’ve decided that he’s getting a thick, glossy white glaze.
Today, I brought home the bust the I’ve been working on from a live model in my figure sculpting class. The next step is to cut it off of the armature and hollow it out, so that it no longer weighs 35 pounds and doesn’t blow up in the kiln. Wish me luck!
Today I unloaded the kiln which contained half of my glazed holiday ceramics. My favourite is the little snowman - off to make more of him! Maybe with top hats?
Just a few days from October, I decided that this week was the week to get all of my holiday ceramics done.
This will be my second year of online selling, and I plan to take full advantage of the gift giving occasions. I’ve made a little collection of pumpkins of various sizes, I’ve got some snowflake covered mugs, and just out of the shot to the left is a snowman waiting to be trimmed.
Tomorrow I will make a few pumpkins with my white stoneware clay.
I’m hoping to have everything fired and ready for thanksgiving and halloween shoppers - I may also buy myself a pumpkin spice latte to fully embrace the season while I make the rest of my pumpkins!
